This is a deeply thoughtful and well written post by Michael Wood. He is spot on about the military strike, and also what it says about our nation's system of government with Trump running roughshod over all branches of our democratic republic.

So much for our 250th anniversary.

I am very worried about a refugee crisis. The influx of Syrian refugees in mid 2010’s helped the Brexiteers through the finish line. I don’t know if it will end well for Trump but he for sure will seize any chance to create chaos since he thrives in it when everyone in office just throws up their hands.

Trump is unconcerned w the outcome and the casualty count The ONLY thing he cares about, the ONLY thing this is about, is distraction and cover to take over elections and thereby remain in full power & control past midterms & beyond.

The only thing Trump cares about is himself. The end.

actually, I think he does care about casualty count in the sense of Number Go Up = Good

Well, this is a great article. Trump has no concern for the lives this will affect; all he cares about is distraction from the Epstein files, which seem to be closing in on him. There are rumors that Iran's intelligence was able to hack into the DOJ and get unredacted files and was planning to release them.

I wish more people would admit the truth of what you said. The Republic at the federal level is over. Then we could move on to discussing what’s next and how do we build it. I remain deeply concerned the country will split up. This is almost never discussed publicly as a possible outcome of our insanity, but it remains real. You can already see nascent aspects of it such as CA, OR, WA,and HI cooperating on policy as has New England. It would be a disaster for all of us and the world…but when we are inside Philip Roth’s Plot Against America or Sinclair Lewis’s It Can’t Happen Here, anything is possible.

Time for Regime change here.

The timing is all too obvious. Obfuscate, delay, ignore.

The timing is more than suspicious.

Good to hear from you, Michael. Your voice bears listening to.

I wonder about Russia and China and North Korea, now. Will they sit this one out?

This is why having leaders who understand the world and war need to be in congress. It is why having intelligent counselors rather than yes men is a sign of real leadership.

Thanks for this. It was an interesting and accurate essay, except for: Donald Trump completely won the glorious War of Peace against the houthis. He was victorious in the glorious destruction and obliteration of the evil ones, now the hooties are our friends and we are the best warriors. Everything is wonderful and Yemen now and we're looking at building special resort properties on the ocean, which is very nice, and which will be the greatest.
